Monstera Adansonii Plant

Monstera Adansoni Plant

  • Common Names: Swiss Cheese Plant, Five Holes Plant, Adanson’s Monstera
  • Scientific Name: Monstera adansonii
  • Family: Araceae
  • Origin: Native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America
  • Description: Monstera adansonii is highly valued for its unique, fenestrated leaves, which give it a distinctive appearance. Its vining habit makes it an attractive choice for hanging baskets, climbing supports, or as a trailing plant.
  • Leaves: Elongated, heart-shaped leaves with characteristic oval holes (fenestrations). The leaves are typically dark green and become more fenestrated as they mature.
  • Growth Habit: Vining and climbing. Can be trained to climb up supports or allowed to trail from hanging containers.
  • Size: Can grow 3-10 feet long indoors, depending on care and support.
  • Growing Conditions
    • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate lower light conditions but may grow more slowly and produce fewer fenestrations. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
    • Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Water less frequently in the winter.
    • Humidity: Thrives in high humidity. Regular misting, a humidity tray, or a humidifier can help maintain humidity levels.
    • Temperature: Ideal temperature range is 65-80°F (18-27°C). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
    • Soil: Prefers well-draining, rich potting mix. A mix of peat, perlite, and orchid bark works well.
    • Fertilization: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
